Women Kneel before Government Officials in Hunan

“You don’t have the right to know about the truth!” On July 28, police rejected to make response when they were questioned by reporters about the matter, which was widely circulated online, of three women kneeling in front of government officials to beg them to apprehend the murderers in Hunan.

Starting from July 19, netizens have been posting the incident in many bbs forums that a criminal gang used knifes to slash the families of the three women in Qiyang County (祁阳县) that left one in critical condition, two disabled, and another three minorly injured. The posts said that the local police were not willing to chase the suspected criminals so the three women had to come to the county government office to kneel to a high-ranking official.

From the picture published online, we can see several onlookers are gathering around two men who looked to be policemen, and three women are kneeling down in front of them. At the top left corner of the picture, there is also a banner held by two other persons with words that are invisible due to the camera angle.

On July 28, reporters phoned many times the Qiyang County Propaganda Department and Public Security Bureau to verify the fact of the matter, but both of the departments stated they did not know about it. At last, a staff of Qiyang County Public Security Bureau was pissed and questioned the reporters, “Why do you care so much about the matter? What is your motive?” And when the reporters explained they wanted to know the truth of the matter in order to have an effective media guide, the staff responded, “You don’t have the right to know the truth!”
