Wang Yi Accused of Accepting Bribes; Zhao Wei and Liu Fangfei Involved?

This morning, the former vice president of China Development Bank, Wang Yi (王翼), was standing trail at Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court for accepting bribes of 11.90 million yuan.

To our surprise, two well-known celebrities are involded in it. And it is learnt that they are Zhao Wei (赵薇), Chinese famous actress and singer, and Liu Fangfei (刘芳菲), Chinese famous CCTV hostess.

According to the accusation from the Procuratorate, Wang Yi’s first bribe was from Li Tao (李涛), a businessman from Hongkong. Wang Yi and Li Tao have known each other for long. When Li Tao undertook a highway prokect in Hunan Province, Wang Yi took advantage of his post to help get loan to Li Tao. As a return, Li Tao bribed Wang Yi 5.35 million yuan. Now, Ti Tao has been arrested too.

Wang Yi was also accused of other abuses of power. And the total amount of the bribes he accepted is 11.90 million yuan.

When Li Tao was asked to testify at the trail through video, it was unexpected that he mentioned two famous Chinese celebrities. According to Li Tao’s testimony, he opened a department store in Shenzhen, and Wang Yi was invited to the opening ceremony. Wang Yi attended the ceremony and brought Zhao Wei (赵薇) with him. After the ceremony, Li Tao gave Zhao Wei 300 thousand yuan as the appearance fee. Besides, the CCTV hostess Liu Fangfei bought an apartment in Beijing, with the mortgage near 10 thousand to pay each month. Wang Yi then wanted Li Tao to give Liu 2 million yuan to pay the mortgage payments. But when Wang Yi was investigated, Wang let Liu pay Li Tao back 2 million yuan, plus 40 thousand yuan as interest.
