Guo Meimei stirs the Internet by showing off wealth and claiming herself a manager of China Red Cross Commerce

Mircroblogging makes a big change to China’s websphere after it was introduced. Many people and organizations use microblog to promote themselves, brands, etc.

Recently, a 20-year-old girl, called herself “Guo Meimei Baby (郭美美Baby)”, attracted attention of millions of netizens, by showing off her extravagant lifestyle on Sina Weibo (microblog).

From her tweets, the girl is living in a big villa, owns a Maserati sports car and BMW Mini Car, has many famous and expensive handbags, and often engaged in various “aristocratic” sports, and she is “Vice General Manager of China Red Cross Society Commerce”.

It immediately aroused netizens’ doubt on China Red Cross Society. Netizens questioned, as Red Cross is a non-profit and charitable Organization, how a manager can have such a luxurious life. Were all our donations not sent to the people in need, but sent to buy luxurious sports cars and handbags?

Netizens also connected Guo Meimei with Guo Changjiang, Vice President of China Red Cross Society, and suspected that Guo Meimei might be his daughter, as coincidentally, Guo Changjiang also had a microblog that only followed four other people’s microblogs, and among them is Guo Meimei.

Guo Changjiang has denied it. But it is too suspicious, and the tweets from Guo Changjiang’s microblog were found all deleted too after the scandal.

Regarding this matter, yesterday China Red Cross Society published a statement officially to declare that Guo Meimei is not their employee and China Red Cross Society does not have Red Cross Society Commerce under it, and doesn’t have the position of the commercial general manager. In order to protect seriousness of Red Cross emblem, China Red Cross Society retains rights to seek for legal actions against any act misusing the Red Cross emblem.

China Red Cross Society also stated that they always oppose any means to gain public attention by attempting to make false information, and hoped that the public won’t be used and can treat the matter with peace of mind.

However, netizens questioned, why Sina Weibo verified Guo Meimei as Vice General Manager of Red Cross Society Commerce?

Netizens have started human fresh searching for Guo Meimei, and found she was born in Changsha, Hunan. Her parents divorced, and Guo Meimei came to Shenzhen to live with her mother as her mother was selling garments there. Guo Meimei then worked as a still model, actress, in Shenzhen, but was little known to the public. Suddenly in these two years, however, Guo Meimei became very rich.

According to some personal microblogs and some official media microblogs, there is indeed a commerce under China Red Cross Society, and this commerce nominated Shenzhen Tianlue Group (深圳天略集团) to help persuade people to participate in a fundraising events. And after they raise money, they will share some of the fund. The current president of Shenzhen Tianlue Group is Qiu Zhenliang (丘振良), and according to one netizen’s disclosure, Qiu Zhenliang met C-Class model Guo Meimei in Shenzhen, and has an intimate relationship with her. Guo Meimei should be a second wife kept by Qiu Zhenliang.

So it looks true what Guo Meimei later tweeted on her microblog, claiming that she doesn’t belong to China Red Cross Society, but the company she is working has cooperation with China Red Cross Society.
