Chinese fishing fleet arrives in waters of Nansha islands

Under the escort by a fishery administration patrol ship, Yuzheng 310, a fleet of 30 Chinese fishing boats arrived in waters around Yongshu Reef near the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea on Sunday, after sailing for 70 hours.

The largest ever fleet, including a 3,000-tonne supply ship, are expected to stay five to ten days for fishing in the area. Yuzheng 310 will offer protection there.

The fleet’s arrival came after China’s naval frigate that got stranded four days earlier in waters around the Banyue Shoal of Nansha Islands was successfully refloated earlier Sunday.
